Kent Green is dedicated to preserving the beauty and rural character of our small village in the Northwest Corner of Connecticut. Kent Green received official certification from the National Wildlife Federation in 2012 as a Certified Wildlife Habitat. With over thirty bluebird houses, native plantings for food and shelter, and multiple water sources, spring and summer are alive with singing birds and their fledglings. Twenty-five bird feeders provide nutrition for birds all year long and are especially beneficial during the cold winter months.

VERNAL POND

Our property also features a Vernal Pond, which is a seasonal body of water that provides a unique habitat for distinctive plants and animals. These pools are typically devoid of fish, allowing the safe development of amphibian and insect species that cannot withstand competition or predation by fish. Vernal pools can be filled by rain, snowmelt, or groundwater and usually dry up during the summer, making them different from other wetlands.Kent Green is an example of how, with a little effort and forethought, commercial enterprises can help create or preserve habitat and serve the business needs of a community.

To become certified, a property should provide the four basic elements that all wildlife need: food, water, cover, and places to raise their young. In addition to providing for wildlife, certified habitats conserve natural resources by reducing or eliminating the need for fertilizers, pesticides, and irrigation water, which ultimately protects the air, soil, and water of our community.
