KENT GREEN ENVIRONMENT

KENT GREEN

Kent Green operates for the benefit of Kent residents and residents of our neighboring towns.

Our businesses provide the goods and services you really need and few of the things you don’t. We structure our leases in a way that allows our businesses the highest probability of achieving long-term success, including rent subsidies for start-up businesses. With a generous allocation of green space on our 27 acres, we are creating a place where community, commerce, and habitat exist in harmony. Kent Green hosts the Annual Kent Pumpkin Run on the last Sunday in October,  in addition to other community events.

KENT GREEN – CERTIFIED WILDLIFE HABITAT

One of our principal goals is to preserve the beauty and rural character of our small village in the Northwest Corner of Connecticut. Kent Green received official certification in 2012 as a Certified Wildlife Habitat. With over thirty bluebird houses, native plantings for food and shelter and multiple water sources, spring and summer are alive with singing birds and their fledglings. Twenty-five bird feeders provide nutrition for birds all year long, especially beneficial during the cold winter months.

Kent Green is an example of how, with a little effort and forethought, commercial enterprises can help create or preserve habitat and serve the business needs of a community.

To become certified, a property must provide the four basic elements that all wildlife need: food, water, cover and places to raise their young. In addition to providing for wildlife, certified habitats conserve natural resources by reducing or eliminating the need for fertilizers, pesticides and /or irrigation water, which ultimately protects the air, soil, and water throughout our communities. The National Wildlife Federation began the Certified Wildlife Habitat program in 1973 and has since certified almost 150,000 habitats nationwide.

THE TOWN OF KENT

Autumn in Kent, ConnecticutFor a town with only one traffic light and slightly less than 3,000 residents, Kent has an unusually varied culture and a well-educated population. Kent has natural beauty in all four seasons and opportunities for outdoor recreation are virtually unlimited. There are three state parks within town borders and the scenic Housatonic River runs through the heart of town. Canoeing, river rafting, fishing, hunting, boating, hiking, skiing, skating, and birding are all within a few minutes’ drives from the center of town.

With a population density of 61 people per square mile, Kent’s 49 square miles are easy to navigate. Almost all of Kent’s restaurants and town services are within a five-minute walk of Kent Green. Kent residents enjoy a low stress, high quality of life. Our leading industry is secondary school education. With three private secondary schools and a combined enrollment of approximately 850 students, school faculty members, spouses and children further enhance the quality of life in our community.

This emphasis on education spills over into our public schools and well-educated spouses of faculty members contribute to an equally well-educated labor pool. Crime in the town of Kent is extremely rare.
